Mater Ecclesiae Academy is named in honor of Mary, Mother of the Church. She is the model of faithfulness in listening to the Lord and in service to Him and to others.
Faithful to the Magisterium of the one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church, the primary purpose for which Mater Ecclesiae Academy exists is to support parents as they carry out of their roles as the “primary educators of their children” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2223). Specifically, we serve parents who have already assumed these roles as homeschoolers. In such a manner, we strive to maintain a society in which “marriage and the family are ordered to the good of the spouses and to the procreation and education of children” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2201).
Classical philosophy teaches that beauty radiates unity, harmony, proportion, and wholeness. As an independent Catholic classical support organization, we recognize the supreme beauty of the Church and incorporate her rich tradition into the daily lives of our students, regardless of the subject being taught. Thus, our materials need, first of all, to meet the criteria of what constitutes beauty, but also to reveal the Catholic faith following the liturgical year.
We are a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit organization. Students meet throughout the school day once or twice per week to attend small classes divided per grade level(s) throughout K-8 for Language Arts and Math, and divided by primary and intermediate grades for the other subjects. Teachers are hired to deliver instruction within these collective learning opportunities, to which effect we note that we do not function as a co-op. Our service to homeschool families includes provision of daily lesson plans aligned to what is taught at M.E.A., which lesson plans parents may implement in the homeschooling of their children at home on the remaining days of the week.
Our educational approach involves an implementation of a Classical Catholic Education. For more about Classical Catholic Education please see: Classical Catholic Education.
